Matcha Latte Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons of matcha powder
- 200 ml of hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)
- 150 ml of milk (your choice of dairy or non-dairy)
- 1-2 teaspoons of sweetener (such as honey, sugar, or maple syrup, adjust to taste)
- Optional: a splash of vanilla extract
Recipe
- Heat the Water: In a separate kettle or saucepan, heat 200 ml of water until it reaches about 175°F (80°C). It's essential not to use boiling water, as it can make the matcha taste bitter. Allow the water to cool slightly for a minute or two after reaching the desired temperature.
- Whisk the Matcha: Pour the hot water over the sifted matcha powder in your matcha bowl. Using a bamboo whisk or an electric frother, whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and a frothy layer forms on top. This usually takes about 30 seconds.
- Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk over low to medium heat. Be careful not to boil it; you want it to be hot but not scalded. If you have a thermometer, aim for around 150°F (65°C).
- Combine Matcha and Milk: Pour the hot milk into the matcha mixture while continuously whisking to combine them thoroughly.
- Sweeten and Flavor (Optional): If you like your matcha latte sweetened, add 1-2 teaspoons of your preferred sweetener, adjusting to taste. You can also add a pinch of salt and a splash of vanilla extract for extra flavor if desired.
- Final Whisk: Give your matcha latte one final whisk to ensure all ingredients are well blended and frothy.
- Serve: Pour your freshly prepared matcha latte into a mug or a teacup, and enjoy your delightful, creamy matcha latte!
